The Public Guardian and Trustee is Trustee for children and adults for whom personal trusts have been established. These trusts may be established under a will, in a trust agreement or by court order. Many people appoint a family member or trust company as trustee. Where these options are not appropriate, the Public Guardian and Trustee may agree to act as trustee. Personal Trust Administrators in our Estate and Personal Trust Services Division carry out this mandate. This is an area in which demand for Public Guardian and Trustee services has grown as some private trust companies have become less willing to manage trusts where capital is less than $500,000. Usually, the Public Guardian and Trustee acts as trustee where the beneficiaries of the trust are children or adults who are unable to make decisions independently.
