The Public Guardian and Trustee (PGT) assumes responsibility for management of assets when an individual or estate becomes a client. The PGT's fiduciary role requires that investment duties are performed with the care, skill, diligence and judgment that a prudent investor would use when making investment decisions.

The PGT's investment goals include investing for the benefit of clients by meeting their investment management goals prudently while achieving good returns at a reasonable cost. The PGT is assisted by an Investment Advisory Committee comprising both internal and external members which advise on investment policy, strategy and tactics.

Clients' funds are invested in one or a combination of the following PGT pooled investment funds:

PGT Premium Money Market Fund
short-term cash fund
This fund's objective is to provide capital preservation and liquidity for risk-averse investors. The rate of return on the portfolio is calculated monthly and interest is credited to each client's internal trust account.
PGT Balanced Income Fund
conservative income pool with small growth element
This fund's objective is to enhance returns for investors with a low to moderate level of risk by investing in a well-diversified portfolio. The income on the portfolio is calculated annually and credited to the client in the form of new fund units.

PGT Balanced Growth
conservative growth pool with small income element
This fund's objective is to enhance long-term returns for investors with a moderate to high level of risk by investing in a well-diversified portfolio. The income on the portfolio is calculated annually and credited to the client in the form of new fund units.

In exceptional circumstances, client funds are invested with a Public Guardian and Trustee contracted discretionary investment manager, contracted broker or in an external brokerage account.

Clients who would like information about their funds should contact their Case Manager, Guardianship and Trust Officer or Estate Administrator. Click here for contact information.
